What is Community Education Support?
The Community Education Support Programme supports the delivery of adult education courses in the community through the provision of funding for tuition costs and support in the setting up or courses. The programme hopes to encourage adults with few/no qualifications to take part in educational activities, in order to build their confidence as individuals and to help in the development of their community.
The aims of the programme
- To support community education providers to organise and deliver low-cost, locally-based educational opportunities for groups of people who do not usually avail of such opportunities. Courses are generally non-accredited but may offer certification
- To promote and support the development of new community education groups and activities in Donegal
- To support the community education sector through the provision of training and information-sharing opportunities
- To gather qualitative and quantitative data on community education activity in Donegal
Mitigating Against Educational Disadvantage Fund (MAEDF) 2021 – Open Call for Funding
Donegal ETB’s Further Education and Training (FET) Service, in conjunction with SOLAS, has launched an open call for funding aimed at providing support for local Community Education providers/groups.
The Mitigating Against Educational Disadvantage Fund (MAEDF) 2021 builds on the success of the previous (2020) fund and is intended to go towards addressing educational disadvantage which may be experienced by learners. It is particularly focussed on supporting the engagement and re-engagement of learners in the community. This call aims to reduce barriers to participation in FET, in particular by facilitating greater access to digital technologies, equipment, and other resources.
Two online information and briefing session for all prospective applicant groups will be held as follows:
- Thursday, 19 August at 11.00 a.m.
- Wednesday 25 August at 11.00 a.m.
To register and indicate your interest in the scheme and information session, please reply to martinaneedham@donegaletb.ie specifying which session you wish to attend.
The closing date for submission of applications is Thursday 16 September 2021.

Completed application forms in respect of funding must be received no later than five weeks before the scheduled start date of the course.
