A great night of celebration was had at Tommy Kerr’s recent retirement function held in the Silver Tassie Hotel, Letterkenny on Friday 6th November. Tommy officially retired from his role as Maintenance Craftsperson after a staggering 37 years of service. The date on which the occasion was held was all the more significant as Tommy began his career with the then VEC on the 6th November 1978. Tommy was accompanied by his wife Mary, also an employee with the ETB, and many of his family members. Also in attendance were former retired colleagues and current staff members. Frankie Quinn, Administrative Officer, who also started employment with the ETB on the same date as Tommy, 6th November 1978, was MC for the evening and speeches were given by our Acting Chief Executive, Ms Anne McHugh, Acting Education Officer, Dr Martin Gormley and former Chief Executive, Seán Ó Longáin.
Tommy covered post primary schools and adult education centres over a wide geographical area throughout his career ranging from Inishowen to Gortahork. During his time at the ETB, he became a well known and valued member of staff and his outstanding craftsmanship, professionalism and gentlemanly nature drew respect from both staff and students alike. There never was a task too big or too small that Tommy wouldn’t approach with a sense of care and attention to detail, all the while, carrying these tasks out in an affable manner.
So from all at Donegal ETB, sending thanks and every best wish to Tommy and his family on his retirement. We’ll miss you.
