Programme of Events for College Awareness Week & European Vocational Skills Week Announced

Donegal ETB’s Further Education and Training (FET) Service is pleased to announce a programme of events for College Awareness Week and European Vocational Skills Week taking place from 20-26 November.

College Awareness Week (#CAW17) aims to promote and celebrate the benefits of going to college and to support students of all ages to become ‘college ready’. European Vocational Skills Week (#EuropeanVocationalSkills) aims to improve the attractiveness and image of vocational education and training and to showcase excellence and quality and raise awareness of the wide range of opportunities.

As the largest FET provider in the county, with almost 12,000 learners completing courses with it in 2016, Donegal ETB’s FET Service hopes to raise awareness among the general public about the wide range of further education and training opportunities it can provide throughout the county.

The events include an information day in its Gaoth Dobhair Training centre on Tuesday 21 November, starting at 11.00am; the presentation of awards to FET learners on the evenings of Tuesday 21 November (Finn Valley) and Wednesday 22 November (Letterkenny and Milford); the official opening of the new Buncrana Youthreach centre at 10.00am on Thursday 23 November and an open adult guidance session on the same day in Donegal Town from 10.00am-1.00pm; Level 5 FET learners from the Letterkenny Adult Education and Training Centre visiting LYIT on 24 November and an Employer Services Information Session and launch of its online portal section of its website on the same day.

In addition Donegal ETB’s Apprenticeship Service is providing an information session on apprenticeships to students in Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana on Tuesday 21 November, while two Donegal ETB schools are also hosting their own events – Moville Community College Transition Year students are hosting an awareness raising event on going to college and Gairmscoil Chú Uladh are hosting an information session from Sligo IT.

Three of the events, the Gaoth Dobhair Training centre information day, the official opening of the Buncrana Youthreach centre and the open adult guidance session in Donegal Town, are open to the public who are encouraged to come along and find out what some of Donegal ETB’s FET centres have to offer.
